The Camera Is Ours Silent Film Festival

As a complement to the presentation of the World Premiere live stage musical The Right Is Ours! (September 8 - October 8, 2023) about women gaining the right to vote, Sierra Madre Playhouse will present The Camera Is Ours, a silent film festival featuring films before and after the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment (1920). It's a weekend of silent film fun at Sierra Madre Playhouse, which began life as a silent film venue in 1924.

Saturday, August 26
- 12 pm (runtime 1 hour): Daredevil Women Before the Vote: screening of The Perils of Pauline and other hair-raising comedies
- 3 pm (runtime 2.5 hours): The Art of Accompaniment: Illustrated talk by Frederick Hodges and screening of It (1927, starring Clara Bow, concept by Elinor Glyn)
- 8 pm (runtime 1.5 hours): screening of Why Be Good? (1929, starring Colleen Moore, written by Paul Perez and Carey Wilson)
Sunday, August 27
- 2 pm (runtime 2.5 hours): Frederick Hodges in Concert and screening of Sparrows (1926, starring Mary Pickford, written by Winifred Dunn, George Marion, Jr., and C. Gardner Sullivan)
- 7 pm (runtime 2.5 hours): screening of Show People (1928, starring Marion Davies) and other shorts and newsreels, and Discussion: Women in Hollywood in the Silent Era featuring Lara Gabrielle and Frederick Hodges; moderated by Rich Procter
The wearing of face masks is recommended at each event.
